Another morning, another verbal beatdown from my stepmom.
"You're just like your mother - stubborn and hard-headed. Does anything I say even get through to you?" she spat, her voice dripping with venom.
I rolled my eyes, familiar with this daily ritual. My stepmom never missed an opportunity to remind me that I am a waste of space and resources.
"I swear, I'm out of here as soon as I finish my internship," I mutter under my breath, scrubbing last night's dishes with a little too much force.
"Hey, brat! Get a move on! You're not even capable of teaching kids, what with your lack of common sense," she sneers, before stalking out of the kitchen.
I let out a deep breath, feeling the familiar weight of frustration settle in. Some days, it feels like life is suffocating me, and all I want to do is break free.
I finish the dishes, grab my bag, and head out the door. The moment I step outside, I feel a sense of liberation wash over me. It is like getting a warm hug after a long, cold night.
I take a deep breath, feeling the cool morning air fill my lungs, and start my walk to uni. Today is going to be a better day. It has to be.
The moment I step out of my house, I feel a wave of relief wash over me. The toxic atmosphere inside is suffocating, thanks to my stepmom and her kids, who seems to take pleasure in belittling me at every turn.
My father, a minister more concerned with his public image than his own family, was clueless about the dynamics at home. He is too busy campaigning for the next election to care about my well-being.
The truth is, my father had never loved my mom. He married her because of my grandfather's influence in the ministry. My mom endured his abuse and infidelity, keeping up the facade of a perfect family for the sake of her reputation.
As for me, I was just a mistake, a means to an end. My father needed a family to present to the public, and I was the proof of his "happy" marriage.
I push aside the bitter thoughts and start walking towards the university, my eyes fixed on the pavement. The car my father has given me, supposedly a symbol of his generosity, was just a tool to boost his public image. "Look, my daughter drives a luxury car! I must be a great provider!" Little did the public know the truth behind closed doors.
I shake off the negative thoughts and focused on the present. Our university is hosting a major event, with CEOs and executives from a top book publishing company attending. They are scouting for talented students to feature in their upcoming seminars. I can't help but feel a pang of envy - I wish I could be one of the chosen ones.
Just then, I hear a familiar voice behind me. "Hey!"
I turn to see my friend Ana, the only person who truly got me. "Hi! What's up? No classes today, right?" I ask, already knowing the answer.
"Yeah, but we still need to wrangle our classmates and get them seated before the function starts," Ana replied, rolling her eyes.
"Seriously? Can't they take care of themselves? It's not like they're kids or something," I say feeling frustrated.
Ana chuckled. "I know, right? But attendance is everything, apparently."
We reach our classrooms and part ways, each of us taking charge of our respective tasks.
As I walk into the classroom, I am hit with a wall of noise - students chatting and laughing, all greeting each other with a cheerful "good morning!" I exchange pleasantries with a few familiar faces before we all settled in for attendance.
Once that was out of the way, we make our way to the stadium where the big event is being held. Ana is glued to her phone, scrolling through social media, while I take in our surroundings. The stadium is buzzing with excitement, and I can feel the anticipation building.
Suddenly, a loud round of applause erupts, and we all stand up to see what the commotion is about. A group of guards walks in, surrounding a mysterious figure. He is followed by a entourage of suits - the chief executives from the publishing company.
My eyes are drawn to the man at the center of it all. He was captivating, with piercing grey eyes that seems to see right through me. They are unsettling, yet calm - like the stillness before a storm. His face is partially hidden behind a mask, but those eyes... they are all I could focus on.
Ana nudge me, whispering "Sit down, girl!" as the people behind us start to get restless. I feel my face heat up with embarrassment as I quickly take my seat, trying not to block anyone's view.
The function finally is wrapping up after nearly two hours, with the CEO - the same guy with the captivating grey eyes - taking the stage for the closing ceremony. His voice is pure magic, weaving a spell that leaves me entrance. I am so caught up in his words that I tuned out everything else around me.
As the ceremony drew to a close, I feel a pang of disappointment. It is over all too soon - I could've listened to him for hours.
Next thing I knew, I am being herded towards the meeting room, along with the other professors and teachers. We all are summoned to meet the guests, and I couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement. I am actually going to meet him!
Huh!! Ik I shouldn't be acting like a teenager crushing over a guy you just see but I can't help cause I am just a gurl and also I crush over random strangers walking over streets so this is not new. I have alot of them having one more won't hurt but crushes means having attraction towards them until they are infront of your eyes and forget them after so I will crush over him until he is here.
In my haste, I am not paying attention where I am going, and before I know it, I am colliding with a tall, muscular guy. My eyes instinctively close, and I feel myself stumbling.
But before I could hit the ground, a pair of strong arms wraps around me, drawing me close. It is like something out of a movie - the hero swooping in to save the heroine. Just like SRK movies.
As I open my eyes, I find myself staring into a pair of grey eyes that seemed to hold a storm within them. My heart skipped a beat as I realize who is holding me...
KEIRAN BLAZE
"Sir, I've got the final reports for your review," his assistant says, placing a sleek tablet in front of him.
He scans the screen, his expression unreadable. "What's this?" he asks, his deep voice firm but controlled.
"The reports on the newly acquired property, sir," his assistant replies.
He nods curtly, his eyes still fixed on the screen. "Leave it here. What's my schedule looking like today?"
"You have a ceremony to attend at W.S.P University, sir. Other than that, your schedule is clear," his assistant replies, already backing away.
He grunts, his gaze still on the reports. "You're dismissed."
My phone buzzes with a reminder from my secretary about the upcoming ceremony. I glance at my smartwatch and head out of the room with purposeful strides.
As I step out of the building, my guard swings open the door of my sleek, black SUV. The ride to the university taked about an hour, giving me just enough time to scroll through my emails and respond to a few urgent messages.
The university's sprawling campus is a sight to behold - modern architecture, lush greenery, and a vibrant atmosphere. My guards flank me as we made our way to the ceremony venue.
To be honest, attending events like this isn't really my thing. As CEO, I preferred to focus on the big picture, tackling challenges that really mattered. But, as the face of the company, my presence was required.
We take our seats at the VIP table, and I can't help but feel a twinge of restlessness. I am here to honor a seminar, but my mind is already racing ahead to the next big project.
The hall is bathed in a warm, golden glow, with thousands of chairs filled to capacity. The ceremony itself is a slick, well-oiled machine, lasting around four hours. I take the stage to close out the event, my voice ringing out across the auditorium.
As soon as I step off the stage, my phone buzzes with an urgent call from my secretary. I answer, and my blood pressure skyrocketed as I listen to the news - our new site has been vandalize in our absence.
I am seething, my anger boiling over as I stalk towards my waiting car. But before I could reach it, a small, sightless child stumble into me, nearly sending her tumbling to the ground.
I react on instinct, reaching out to catch the child and steady her. But as I look down, I am taken aback by the sight of a beautiful young woman, her eyes closed, her small hands clutching at my arm. She looked like a porcelain doll, delicate and fragile.
As she opens her eyes, they widens in surprise, and a deep blush spread across her cheeks, reaching all the way to the tips of her ears.
I realize I am still holding her and quickly released my grip, but my eyes never leave her face. She looks so innocent, so captivating, that I feel like I am under her spell.
As she scans her surroundings, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she hastily made an exit. I stand there, frozen in awe, watching as she disappeared into the crowd.
The encounter has left me breathless, and I can't shake off the feeling that I want more. I need to know who she is, to feel her presence again.
This is such a foreign feeling to me but I want more of it. Maybe pull some strings off and know about her.
I step outside, pulling out my phone to dial my secretary's number. "I need you to find out who that girl was," I instructs, my voice firm and urgent. "I want her information, and I want it now."
My secretary's voice is crisp and efficient on the other end of the line. "Right away, sir. I'll have the information for you within the hour."
I end the call, my mind already racing with possibilities. Who was this mysterious girl, and what was it about her that had left me so entranced?
I want her with me. Just don't know for what reason but I need to have her.
The thing just happened wasn't something I was accustomed to but whatever it was , I needed more
I needed her as soon as I can...
